Scramble With Friends is one of the many word based puzzle games that is on the iOS. The fact that this one has been brought to life by the good folks at Zynga though made me take a special interest in the game. So far I have really enjoyed the majority of what Zynga have put out so it was with high hopes I went into this game.

Now when you see some screen shots for this game you may get a little case of de javu of a game called Words With Friends. Well that is because these two games are in fact very similar, but lets just take this one on its own merit.

Scramble With Friends is a multiplayer word puzzle game. The basic idea here is that you need to make the biggest word possible to get the highest score that you possible can. Which in the progress gives you the bragging rights that you are smarter than one of your buddies.

What makes this game so much fun is the social aspect. You can connect with people in many different ways I found that playing my friends on Facebook was the easiest way, but you can also search for individuals or even play strangers. I will mention that there is a way you can use Twitter, but I never tried that one out.

So the way that you play the game is by using your finger to swipe across the various letter tiles that are on the screen to make the largest word that you can. This will really test your vocabulary to the limit as you try and prove to people that you are not one of these players who will just use words like dog, cat, bus and other simple words.

One thing that I got a kick out of was the power ups that this game would throw at you. To have power ups in a game like this really does shake things up. My personal favourite was the one that would shuffle the word tiles around. This though is a double edged sword as sometimes they will re-arrange in a great way and other times you can be really screwed.

There are in app purchases of tokens that are required to play the actual game or to buy power ups. Truth be told if you are just playing a game or two a day then you will probably never have a need to buy any tokens from the in game store. I like this kind of approach to in app purchases. As it lets people who really get into the game decide if they want to spend a few bucks. But at the same time it doe snot punish casual players for keeping there wallets in there pockets.

This is a really fun game that I think is one of the best word based puzzle games on the iOS store right now. I think that the power ups really do make the game so much more fun. There is nothing better than screwing your friend out of a win. When it comes to free word puzzle games you will find it hard to beat this.
