If your iPad freezes when you are trying to upgrade to a newer iOS and rebooting it fails, it means your iPad has gone into recovery mode. Unfortunately the only way to get out of recovery mode is to restore your iPad. To do this, open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPad. You will see a message in iTunes that it recognizes your iPad is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Choose to restore the iPad and then “Restore from Backup”.
