If you want to use Skype on your iPhone, you can download the free Skype app from the iTunes store. Before you start making calls with it though, it helps to test it to make sure that your sound devices are working properly with the app. To do this, click the “Check Your Sound Works” on the Skype welcome screen and test your speakers, microphone and video. If any of these tests fail, Skype will offer suggestions for how you can fix whatever issues you are having. Skype also attempts to automatically fix some problems, or you can choose Tools, Settings and the Audio Settings to make any other adjustments you need to make in order to have clear communications with your Skype contacts.

When you have adjusted the mic, sound and video for your Skype app on your iPhone, you can add contacts by choosing Contacts and then Add a Contact to add them individually, or import a list from an existing webmail or Facebook account by choosing Contacts and then Import Contacts. From that point you can select the type of account you want to import from to have your contacts show up in Skype.

When you have your contacts set up in your Skype app for your iPhone, you can begin instant messaging or making calls. All you have to do is select the contact you want to talk to, type a message and tap the send button. You can also send image messages. If you want to keep a history of all of your chats, choose Tools, Options and then tap the IM and SMS tab. At that point, you can tap on Show Advanced Options and choose any of the settings to suite your purpose.

If you want to make phone calls through your Skype app on your iPhone, you need to set up a Skype number and you can do this by going into the Manage features section and choosing select Skype Number. You do have to pay for Skype calls and to do this, you purchase credits. You will find those options when you set up your phone number. You can then set up voicemail by going to Tools, Options, Calls and then Show Advanced Options and tap on Voicemail. From that point you can choose to send unanswered calls to voicemail and click on the Record button to create a message.
