Toy Defense was a pretty big hit a while back. It let you take part in some battles from the first World War, but with toy soldiers. Truth be told this was not an original approach, but it was still a pretty fun game that sold really well. Actually it sold millions of copies. So it is not all that surprising that Melesta are back with the sequel.

I think that from a presentational point of view if I am being honest not a great deal has changed from the previous game. Which when you consider was already a good looking game is not that bad of a thing. The level designs and your towers, soldiers and other aspects of the game do have a nice charm to them.

Now if you never played the first Toy Defense game let me fill you in a little. It is a tower defense game, but it was a really fun tower defense game. For the sequel rather than re-writing the rule book. The guys at Melesta have instead made some little changes here and there to make it a more fun overall experience. The first big change that I really should have mentioned earlier is that he game is now set in World War II.

I am not the most skilled tower defense player out there. Which when you consider just how many I have played on the iPad the last few years I really should be better than I am. The thing that I really like about Toy Defense 2 is that it is quite a restrictive game. I know this may sound like a bad thing, but I really like this and it made it much easier for me to play. Some of these tower defense games have hundreds of options and things for you to use and customize. And while Toy Defense 2 does have some of that and more than enough to stop you getting fed up its never overwhelming.

You only have four different kinds of soldiers to pick from air interceptors, anti aircraft, artillery and rifleman. This may sound very limiting, but was you progress through the game these guys can be upgraded with new skills and abilities. But it does it at a great pace so that it is very easy to get to grips with. As you take down the invading troops you will earn some money which can be used to ether buy new defense towers, upgrade existing ones or even repair some busted ones that you have become attached to. Once you have completed a level you get to go to a sort of in game store where you can make your purchases.

This is a great gem of a game and one that I highly recommend. I think this is more of an arcade style tower defense game which is why I think I enjoyed it so much. At only a couple of bucks you are getting a ton of game play here.
