I am one of the harshest critics there is when it comes to the freemium town building style of game. But I have spent a ton of time playing The Simpsons Tapped Out. And when ever my iPad gives me a notification that something has happened in my virtual Springfield I get giddy like a school girl.

This game captures the look and the feel of The Simpsons absolutely perfectly. When you are dealing with any kind of license in a video game you have to get it right. Because if you do not you can bet your keister that the fans of that license will let you know. I consider my self quite the hardcore Simpsons fan. I still have the vinyl record of Do The Bartman in my record collection. I am sure there are many kids reading this wondering what the heck a vinyl record is. Anyway back on topic this is a great looking game. If you like The Simpsons then I am sure you will have a big goofy smile on your face when you are playing this.

The funny thing is The Simpsons Tapped Out is really just like any other freemium town builder game, but the fact that it is based on The Simpsons to me at least really makes it so much more fun. And may other things that I would hate another game like this for doing I am more forgiven here. Does this make me a big fat hypocrite? Quite possibly yes it does.

Anyway the idea here is that while at work Homer has caused a meltdown and has wiped out Springfield. So now it is up to you to rebuild the town. This is your standard town building game, but with a Simpsons coat of paint. And that to me is what makes this the most fun I have had with one of these games on my iPad. You will need to rebuild the houses starting with The Simpsons household. I got a kick out of Homer’s lack of enthusiasm for rebuilding Flander’s house.

As well as building the town you can do little jobs like making sure Springfield is tidy and things like that. This will earn you more money and experience that can be used to buy new buildings. One other cool thing that you can do is visit other peoples Springfield’s.

I will fully admit that this at its core is your basic town building game. Yet I just keep on coming back to it. If you are a Simpsons fan this is the game for you. There are a ton of little in jokes that only fans of the series will get. A great deal of time and effort was put into this game to make sure that they did The Simpsons license right.

Of course as much as I love The Simpsons the game still has the same things that bug me about this genre of game. Such as long waiting times for things to build. And if you want to have a full Springfield with all your favourite locations and characters. Then you will either have to spend weeks and weeks playing this game (like I have done) or you will have to pay up with some real money.

I love this game I really do, but a huge part of that is because of my love for The Simpsons. If you like The Simpsons you must download this. And even a casual viewer I am sure would have some fun here.
