Passbook keeps all your boarding passes, loyalty cards, retail coupons, movie tickets, and more organized and easily available for you. There are many apps that are compatible with this iPhone feature including American Airlines, United and Starbucks to name a few. For example, if you download and use the Starbucks app you can choose which payment methods you will use for your Starbucks purchases and add that to your Passbook store along with the top ten Starbucks stores that you visit the most often. Then, when you get to one of those Starbucks locations, Passbook will create a popup notification on your lock screen that you can swipe to immediately access whichever payment method you created. The barrista can then just scan your iPhone to process payment.

Passbook for your iPhone works similarly with places such as Old Navy, Petsmart, Macy’s, Target, Sweet Tomatoes, and many more. Along with setting payment options, it will also update coupons for you to use as well. All you have to do to get started with Passbook is locate and launch the default app in your iPhone and then tap the welcome screen that says “Apps for Passbook”. When you tap this option, it will take you to an app store that includes all the compatible apps from your favorite stores and travel venues and you can just click on the ones you want to use. After tapping on which app you want to use with your Passbook, you can tap on the Manage button that will show up on the bottom right of your screen.

When you are in the Manage button to set up an app with Passbook, you can enter you preferred payment method by tapping on the “Add Card to Passbook” button. You will also see a “coupons” section for some of the apps you choose, such as Target and can tap on the ones that you want to use and add them to your Passbook so they will show up during checkout.

After you have Passbook set up for your iPhone, you can pretty much forget about it because it is time and location aware and will create popup notifications that you can use to access the appropriate information. For example, if you have a movie ticket through Fandango and show up at the theater, your ticket will automatically show up on your lock screen. All you have to do then is swipe them to use them.

You can delete items that you add to Passbook or manage the settings by opening the Passbook App, and tapping on the little “i” that shows up next to the item you want t manage. Also, if you want to make sure your information stays secure you can toggle off the “Show on Lock Screen” option. If you do this, then you will need to manually open Passbook to get to items you’ve saved.
