Doc McStuffins: Time For Your Check Up, is a game created by Disney. It costs $3.99 and is available on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Objective:

Time For Your Check Up has a couple of game modes that young children can play through. The first game mode is called “Check Up.” This is where children can “diagnose” patients by using a variety of medical equipment.

Another game mode that Time For Your Check Up offers is Mixupitis. In this mode players get two toys with mixed up parts. The player’s job is to put the parts back on the right toy to fix it. The other two game modes are called Doctor’s Kit and Picture Stickers.

The “Picture Sticker” mode is an almost useless feature that lets players take photos and add stickers to them. The doctor’s kid is a virtual reality mode that uses the device’s camera to emulate a stethoscope, otoscope and X-Ray.

The Good:

This game looks very promising for young children. The quality of the design and soundtrack is obviously very high-end; just as we would expect an app coming from Disney to be.

The Bad:

As a parent (I’m not a parent) it would be pretty hard for me to see the value in this app. $4 can be spent on other educational apps out there. This game felt more like a gimmick app created for Doc McStuffins fans that will buy anything from her.

Although the average reviews on iTunes are great, there are a good amount of reviews that share the same thoughts about this app as me:

“I had high hopes for this app as my daughter is OBSESSED with Doc McStuffins. Sad to say I am slightly disappointed. There are only the 2 games, and there isnt much variability within them. None of the signature Doc MCStufffins songs are on the app and the sticker book and doctor bag activities require the kids to move the iPad around to take pictures, which I don’t like my daughter to do for fear it is going to get dropped. I hate to say it because I love Disney, but the Dr. Panda app is a better doctor/check up app than this one.” 2 Stars –Ucfspeechgirl

Conclusion:

If you pass up this app, then you’re not missing much. It doesn’t offer much educational or entertainment value for children. They’d be better off watching YouTube videos of Doc McStuffins then playing this $4 game.
